New WSCA Interest Group Announced: Communication, Identities & Difference
By Michelle A. Holling, WSCA President
We are pleased to announce that Communication, Identities & Difference is the newest WSCA interest group! This interest group was proposed to and approved by the WSCA Executive Council on November 15, 2017. The approval status is for a two-year probationary period.
The goals of the new interest group are as follows:
- To centralize the study of intersectional and historically marginalized identities (i.e., race, sexuality, class, nation, disability, the body, and/or gender among other identity categories) in the examination of communication regardless of theoretical or methodological approach;
- To offer an outlet for presenting scholarship and/or hosting panel sessions dedicated to scholarship that is committed to examining and unveiling the role of intersectional and marginalized identities in discursive and non-discursive realms;
- To create and maintain a space in which members and/or allies of marginalized positionalities may affirm, support, and network with each other; and
- To serve as an advocacy platform from which concerns may be voiced to the Association.
We look forward to the unique contributions this interest group will bring to WSCA, and we encourage all interested members to get involved by affiliating with this interest group through their profile management at westcomm dot org.
