The Consortium of Social Science Associations’ (COSSA) Social Science Advocacy Day was held virtually on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. This annual event is designed to encourage members of Congress to support federal funding of the social and behavioral sciences.
This year, Dr. Kami Silk participated in this advocacy work as a representative of NCA. Dr. Silk is Rosenberg Professor and Chairperson in the Department of Communication at the University of Delaware. Regarding the Advocacy Day experience, Silk notes that “I could see the unmet potential for communication expertise to help identify barriers, develop and implement solutions, and evaluate them.”
Silk explains that this advocacy work is important for Communication professors and the health of the discipline as it “increases awareness that we do relevant work that often informs policy.” Silk also adds that “making the case for the Communication discipline to those outside of it is fundamental to our growth as a discipline.”
NCA members are eligible to participate in COSSA’s Social Science Advocacy Day. If you are interested in this advocacy work, please contact academic@natcom.org.
