The full program for the upcoming NCA 107th Annual Convention is now available on NCA Convention Central. The online program is searchable by session or paper title, sponsor, keyword, and participant, and is viewable in a daily grid format. Participants can add sessions and presentations to their personal schedule within NCA Convention Central. Highlights include the following three general sessions, which will also be livestreamed for those who cannot attend the convention in person: 

 

 

 

NCA Opening Session: Honoring Past and Present: Communication, Culture, and Change in Native Seattle
Thursday, November 18, 5:00 – 6:15 p.m.

This program, sponsored by the Waterhouse Family Institute for the Study of Communication and Society, will highlight the role communication plays in Native communities, through language, art, culture, and ritual. The panel will be chaired by Eean B. Grimshaw, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and will feature La Royce Batchelor, Clever Crow; Derrick Belgarde, Chief Seattle Club; Abriel Johnny, United Indians of All Tribes Foundation; Esther Lucero, Seattle Indian Health Board; and Scott Pinkham, University of Washington.

Carroll C. Arnold Distinguished Lecture
Friday, November 19, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Tina M. Harris, Louisiana State University, will deliver “Intentional Transformation in the Midst of Change,” which will address the need for “intentional transformation.” By intentional transformation, Harris means addressing the many inequities that impact daily life. The address will reflect on the need for Communication scholars to commit to intentional transformation to address disparities and transform the discipline and the world. 

NCA Presidential Address and Awards Presentation
Saturday, November 20, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.

NCA President David T. McMahan, Missouri Western State University, will deliver the Presidential Address, “Assessing and Advancing the Discipline,” which will consider how the discipline can adapt to the changing academic world. The address will be followed by the presentation of the NCA Awards. This session is sponsored by NCA’s publishing partner, Routledge, Taylor & Francis. 

Virtual access to other key sessions will also be available: several First Vice President-sponsored sessions including those in the “Renewal and Transformation” spotlight series, a session focusing on countering anti-Asian violence, and a session exploring alternative academic careers. Registration will not be required to view the livestreamed sessions. More information on how to access these sessions will be forthcoming.

Discounted Early Bird registration rates are available until September 17, 2021, and offer significant savings to all attendees who register before that date. The group room blocks at the Sheraton Grand Seattle and Westin Seattle are also open. For information on how to reserve a room, please visit the Hotel and Travel Information webpage. Sessions will be held in the Sheraton Grand and the Washington State Convention Center. No sessions will be held at the Westin.
